Scottish Short Course Nationals
The pool at Tollcross, Glasgow was shortened to a distance of 25 metres for the Scottish Open National Short Course Championships from 14-16 January.
Seven of the Club’s members had entered and were accepted to swim and some good times were recorded.
Callum Moreland had 6 events, with his best showing coming from his 2 “specialist” events the 50 and 100 metres freestyle. Although he did not quite match his fast times from the Club Championships his times of 25.16 and 56.30 seconds were accredited times that will enable him to be in faster heats the next time around. His performances in the 50m back, 100 m Individual Medley, 100m fly and 50 fly were all not far off his best despite the heavy programme.
Andrew Wilson and Ryan Blincow both swam superb 50 m breaststroke races in best times of 34.73 and 34.63 seconds respectively.
As ever, David Robinson swam courageously despite lack of training – recording a time of 1minute 04.69 in the 100m fly.
Chris Ritchie, coming back from illness, had mixed success. His best two swims were personal best times in 200m fly (2minutes 22.11) and 200m back (2minutes 22.29) and four other hard swims over the 3 days.
Calum O’Loughlin excelled by breaking 30 seconds in the 50m fly for the first time –29.95 seconds.
Unfortunately Andy Thomson was unable to get to Tollcross due to school commitments on Day 1 and illness on Day 2.
